home page keeps changing

Nov 25, 2003 4:28AM PST

My home page keeps changing to one of the following. Luckey search.cc, globe-finder.cc or clear search.cc. I understand that this is adware. I have tried several spy removal programs, such as SPYBOT SEARCH & DESTROY, AD - AWARE 6.0, and SPYKILLER (which I would have to buy to have the threats removed), but the problem keeps coming back or was never removed. SPYFERRET does mention this threat in their download info, but it has to be bought. At the risk of sounding like a cheapskate isn't there some shareware out there? How can I get rid of this threat and block it so I can choose my home page, not some outside company choosing it for me?
I am using windows xp.

Download and run HijackThis - get it here:

http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/

Unzip, double-click "HijackThis.exe" and Press "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Click: "Save Log" (generates: "hijackthis.log")

Next, HijackThis | Config [button] | Misc Tools [button]
Click: Generate StartupList log [button] (generates: "startuplist.txt")

Next, go to the link below.

http://www.spywareinfo.com/forums/

and post your "hijackthis.log". There are the experts and they will tell you what to do.

Good Luck!

Here are some links to read about the "Luckysearch" and "Globefinder" issue:

This one has a potential 'fix' at the last post. Use "Coolwebsearch 1.36":

Click HERE For The Discussion Link

And here are the "fixes" that were discussed.(Make sure to read the section about how to prevent this from happening again..."http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/cwschronicles.html" patch, Java patches, disable ActiveX, etc.):
Click HERE TO READ ABOUT CoolWEBSearch and CWShredder

Click HERE For The CWShredder Download in Zip Format

Click HERE for the CWShredder Download in .EXE Format

Hope this helps.
