I usually let the cable company supply that part since they absorb the cost when it fails. As to routers I think I'm going to give the nod to Google's new router.
For access points, you have many many choices as routers can be used as access points. As to power, well I use 802.11g since that's speedy enough and I get more non-overlapping channels. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WLAN_channels if you need a primer.
Hi Cnet'ers....
I recently put Cat 5e and some Cat 6 from a data closet to about 5 or 6 rooms in our home. I am going to get a new router and wanted to see what you suggest. Money isn't an issue on this one, just want to get something that will be sufficient for the next little while. Home has a few zones: upstairs, downstairs, kitchen area, garage area, front of house.
I am looking for suggestions on the following:
A. Router/hub thing that will take the Coax from Comcast highspeed cable modem, and distribute to the rest of the house.
B. Wireless signal extenders ( that won't be too strong, yes I believe they can be too strong) which I can connect at a few of the end points of my LAN. My wife uses wireless devices and we have cell phones so I want it to be good signal for her wherever she is in the house.
