home network security problem

Since I am on a home network, can the computers in the other rooms access my information? If so, how can I prevent them from seeing my information?
Also, I have other users on my computer that I didn't put in:
System user
Me as a user
Me as administrator
Everyone user
Can I delete all these users safely and keep only me as a user?

If you manage to reduce the users to "just you" and XP or Vista corrupts a profile (type 'XP Corrupt Profile' on google) then how would you get back into your machine?

So with that out of the way the simple thing to do is to not enable file or printer sharing and install a firewall.
