home network issues

I have 3 pcs on a home network and i want to be able to login on any of the 3 pcs and access my personal desktop which is on the 2nd pc on the network

That might be possible if you use Remote Desktop and have Windows XP Pro.

I am refering to the way a business or a school network works

You wrote "home network".

For the business case, you would install a "server" and it will be a "domain server" that you log into and then you do folder redirection.

Microsoft Windows Server, we have ways.

A Linux box can also be a domain server and your files/settings/login_scripts can go there.

But it's a little more work.
