Home NAS system recommendations?

Oct 21, 2006 7:02AM PDT

Looking for a 250GB-350GB NAS for wireless use through my router as a primary backup storage device for two Windows laptops and one Mac laptop. Needs to be user friendly, low-cost, and secure. Any ideas from the forum?

How much to backup? And why you may not want to be wifi.

Let's take some 10GB to be copied over a typical wifi link. Since wifi is shared access let's say we get 1/2 the full 54 megabit connection.

10GB over a 27 megabit connection even at it's best will be a little over an hour. One owner screamed as their total backup of their 200GB system would finish in a day or 2.

Is that acceptable?

NAS rec' and how much

We are looking at backing up 10-30GB at any given time. But I am hoping to set it up such that it does these backups overnight, etc. Does this make sense?

Look at Buffalo and Dlink's offerings.

Security on such is on the light side but works.
