Question

Home Group vs. network-different or same?

Mar 25, 2014 12:36PM PDT

I am in the process of engaging the services of an independent IT support contractor for some installation/
re-installation, technical upgrade work. I have now 3 computers.

One has recommended the set up of a HomeGroup. Yet, some years ago, I actually engaged a company to set up a network (between 2 computers), which I still use.

Can any here kindly tell me what the difference(s) is/are between the HomeGroup set up by MS, & an actual small network set up by others, that appears to not utilise the MS-supplied component?

Answer
Knowing almost nothing about networking . . .

when I set up my first home network, I simply installed the router, went into the Windows Network Setup Wizard, followed a few clicks, called the home network what I wanted, made sure it was the same name on all my PCs, and I had a four PC network in no time. It's easy.
