Home Design Software

by johnmendenhall / April 8, 2006 5:54 AM PDT

My father in-law is building a new home, and wants to make it a "zero energy" home, meaning it is essentially cut off from the electric grid and totally self sufficient. If not, then as much independent as possible. Does anyone know of any home design software that allows you to incorporate special designs that would be reflected from the special hardware required for this application. It doesn't have to be able to produce blueprints, but that would be nice.

Also, probably most important, I want to be able to take a photograph and superimpose my home design into the landscape, so as to make a good marketing tool. I am not familiar with the different types of software out there, and what is cheesy and what is not, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

The Samsung RF23M8090SG

One of the best French door fridges we've tested

A good-looking fridge with useful features like an auto-filling water pitcher and a temperature-adjustable "FlexZone" drawer. It was a near-flawless performer in our cooling tests.
