scud121,
The optical cable port from the TV will not transmit 5.1 or other surround sound options unless the signal from the tuner is a 5.1. All other inputs and connections need to route the audio to the HT system separately from the source.
You might be able to connect to the HT system, but you'd have to check in the manual if it has those capabilities.

Having problems with the sound setup for a samsung tv + home cinema. Currently have an external hard drive connected to the tv, but I'm not able to get surround sound. TV and Home Cinema are connected by a Optical cable. Is there any way other than connecting the HD to the Cinema, and if not, is there an easy way to access the HD without having to mess about with the source settings. Currently, its a case of simply pressing the "media.P" button, through the cinema seems to be a maze of clicks and menu choices, and frankly I don't have the patience to do that every time I want to listen to music.
