Home built gaming computer reboots at Windows logo

so i bought from newegg pieces to make a new computer cause mine was long over due for an upgrade

so after getting everything up and running hardware wise i plugged in my old hard drive and the new SSD drive i was going to use for the OS and now when i get to the windows logo it crashes (blue screen) and reboots.

im not sure whats going on at this point and really could use some help

On a new motherboard, it's best - if not necessary - to reinstall Windows from scratch. So find your (retail only) Windows disk and boot from it. If it's an OEM or system builder version you currently have, you might have to buy a new license.

see if you can boot to safe mode, using F8 to access it. If so, then load all the driver files for that new motherboard. If it demands activation, then do that if you can, but as Kees noted if OEM, tied to the old motherboard, you are out of luck.

In the interim, you could try the system I prefer using all the time, which is Linux Mint 17 MATE. It's fairly easy for former windows users.

You can create a LIVE DVD or LIVE USB and no need to even install to the hard drive, just boot into the operating system instead from the DVD or USB. If you want to save any work, must do to the hard drive. If you like, can also install.

After about 2 hours, of futzing with the iso image i went out and bought 8.1 pro and called it a day
