Question

Holden Astra Emmisions Problem

Hi I was wondering if anyone would know the cause of this issue as I’ve taken it to two mechanics and the problem has only worsened.
The emissions light has come on in my car. A 2003 Astra automatic. Since it has come on, I have not been able to accelerate in drive. I have been able to drive it normally when using the gear setting and in reverse. Once it gets over 20km a hour I can put it back into drive from the gears and it will drive fine. The acceleration is slow however and going up hills it loses speed. Since this has begun, the engine has begun to heat up when driving, and when idling it goes up quite high, just to lower its temperature slightly when I begin to drive again.
Today however it got all the way to the two red lines and the engine began smoking. It has enough oil and water in it, I’ve checked those.

When we used a code reader on the car, the code that came up was p0700.
Has anyone got any idea of what this could be?

Not sure on engine size, it would be whatever is standard for that model. No upgrades have been performed on this car.

HI, Plato; P0700 series codes are transmission related. Unfortunately, since that vehicle is not sold in the US, I cannot look up the specific code for you. Is Astra made by one of the major companies (Toyota, Nissan, Honda, ect.)? If so, let me know which one and engine size, and I'll see what info I can find.
Good luck.
