HMMMMMMM...

Feb 20, 2004 7:36AM PST

Okay. I understand about System Idle. Well, I still dont get whast the problem. My power supply fan is blowing up a hurricane. The CPU usage is still around 50-60%. I have no bugs or spyware and I have removed as many things from the start up list as possible. Hmmmmm I just dont know. I really need help, I just cant think of anything. Now only 37 tasks are running but still. Please, I hope we dont need a new one. I want everyones thoughts, if nothing happens, I guess well get a technician over here or something. I would like to fix it myself though.

Find the offending program, if possible. Go into "msconfig" and UNCHECK programs one at a time. (The same can be done by disabling "services".) Start with your antivirus programs and firewall and move on till you find the culprit.

Hope this helps.

I went to the balck viper site. I went into services.msc and disabled the indexing service and system restore. Ta Da, everything is fine. Whoo Hoo!!! Thanks All.

Just FYI.

The indexing eventually ends when it gets done...

But I kill it too.

I'd turn restore back on! At LEAST on the system drive. It has saved my butt too many times. You can enable it through system properties, system restore. No need to go to services.

Thank you Tom!!
I see that BlackViper has this same info for W2000 Professional.
It is really handy.
Especially since he indicates that under W2K it is very hard to determine the tasks.
Thanks!! Ken
