HL-DT-ST-DVD+-RW GSA-T21N ATA, DVD+R Burning problem

Dec 27, 2009 1:03PM PST

Hello there,

I've been having a problem burning DVD Roms with Nero 9.4. But actually it seems whatever program I use, I cannot burn a disc. I've used Power ISO and the same issue. Nero starts off and then when I get to the Lead In part it hangs and spits the disc out. I see a ring around near the centre of the disc and hear a scratching sound before the disc is ejected. I'm attaching the error log from Nero if it helps: Thanks a lot in advance!

These drives have only months of life designed in. After swapping so many over the years you learn the lesson. And yes, we swap it, show it working and then the owner asks to put the old drive back for a test. A few want the old drive fixed. You can only smile.

Please don't say that too loudly around my Pioneer DVR-109, which has burned a few thousand discs over the past six years.

I have an older Pioneer.

The only thing it died of was it began to get finicky over media. Finally I wanted to record dual layer and it couldn't.

Ok. The drill?

1. CD/DVD lens cleaner (do not use on BLU RAY!)
2. Upper, lower, filters -> http://www.pchell.com/hardware/cd_drive_error_code_39.shtml AND YES we do this on finicky drives too.
3. Other media.
4. New drive.

Hi, gordony1:

You'll hardly find worse blank media than CMC Magnetics (CMC MAG M01). My suggestion would be to try something else.

Let me recommend this site for brands to use and those to steer clear of: http://www.digitalfaq.com/reviews/dvd-media.htm

I personally use Verbatim DVD+R almost exclusively and have had maybe 2-3 failures out of thousands of blank DVD discs.

So I can either chuck it out or try a lens cleaner, right? I tried the deleting registry key and will see how it works out when i try to burn another disc. Thanks.
