Hitachi Projection TV Problem- Model 43FDX15B

Dec 21, 2004 11:39AM PST

I have used this TV for 2 years with no problems... until last week. In the past, when I turned the TV off, the red power light also went off. But now, when I try to turn it off (via the power button on the Remote or Main Unit), the red light stays on and the TV appears to be in a stand-by mode. The light does not go off unless I pull out the plug. Also when I try to turn the TV on now, it takes about 7 or 8 seconds until I get audio/video. Nothing besides a co-ax cable is connected to the TV and I have run out of troubleshoot options. I have called a few Servicers to discuss and I have received very contradictory info ranging from a) don't worry about it, to b)it's probably a bad power supply, to c) sounds like a big $ problem. Tonight, Circuit City suggested I post a message here to see if anyone has any ideas on a solution. Thanks to anyone that can help,

My guess..

The good thing is that you can still watch your tv even though the method of turning it off is not to your liking. My guess is that it will eventually goes bad and I think it will be your pwer supply system.

You might try cleaning it be blowing it clean (inside) with a vacuum cleaner.

I had the same problem on a 53UDX10B. It was relay S901 on the power PWB. It was stuck. I tapped it with a screwdriver and it is now working again, although this is probably a temporary solution. I am ordering a new relay and will replace it the next time the problem occurs.

S901 Power Relay Problem on my Hitachi projection TV
Jan 20, 2005 8:54AM PST

Mr. Duncan,
I would like to say "thank you" for posting a solution to my Hitachi projection problem. Following your advice, I tapped a screwdriver on just about every-thing sticking out of the Power PWB (never found the S901 marker)...and one of the taps did the trick. The TV/red light is now going on and off again to my delight. For future planning, can you tell me what the S901 relay looks like and a proximity of where it is located on the board? Is it a black cannister shape that is hard to reach (towards the front of the TV), is it siver box shape, is it a glass looking tiny tube, or is it white, green or something else that you could describe. Thanks again for your advice!!

It is probably not S901 on your set, I do not have a manual for it. It is probably a black plastic rectangle, about .5" high and 1" long, and may have NAIS written on it. It could be located anywhere on your power board, mine was in the center toward one end.

Mine quit working again after a few days. The new one arrived, so I replaced it, and everything is fine now. Glad I could help.

HITACHI rear projection - No Power, now what????
Mar 6, 2005 5:09AM PST

Hello,

Well, today my beloved Hitachi 46" rear projection tv that I got approximately 14 years ago didn't turn on any more Sad I press power and I hear that sound that I usually hear as it is turning on (somewhat of a click) and at first I saw a glimmer of that red light and then no power. Now, I have tried it over and over and over and now I just hear the sound bet never any power and no red light. I plugged the tv into a different socket and everything. I am guessing it is my power supply because the same thing happened to a computer of mine and that is what it was. So, if you agree that it is probably the power supply - how difficult is that to replace, where do I get one, how do I replace it and what does it look like? If I just don't understand how to do this then how much should I expect to pay a local tv repair guy to come and do this? Can I order the part on my own? Thanks everyone Happy If anyone is in NW Indiana and would like to fix this please let me know Happy
