Hitachi 43FDX01B Projection TV Picture Problems

We have had the subject TV for about 11 years. This morning when we turned on the set the picture was noticeably darker than usual and then proceeded to get even darker as time went on. After about an hour or so it was completely black. I shut it off and tried it later in the day and it is completely black right at start up - no picture at all. The sound still works fine. I tried multiple inputs to make sure it wasn't a cable problem. Any ideas out there or anything I should try for this? Or is it time for a new TV?

Thanks in advance.

Probably time for a replacement?

In reply to: If you are ready for such.

Over the years I've had the the convergence ICs replaced. One at around 4 yrs old and the other at about 7-8 yrs old. This problem does not show the same symptoms as those previous failures. The latest repair was $400 ( the first was covered under extended warranty). Could this be a convergence amp IC or does it sound like somehting different?

Thanks for the help.

I averaged about 2 replacements of that big convergence IC and then something else would fail. Since there was no Sam's Photo Facts available and nothing was blown and there was no public discussion about the next failure I was quoting a full board replacement of near 1K. No one went for it.
