History tracking

Jul 14, 2006 7:03AM PDT

I would like to be able to see a listing of all internet sites visited. Doesn't XP have a function that will allow me to see what sites a computer has been on. I know this can be "cleaned up" but if it is cleaned up then it would be empty. What files do I look at/

Thanks

What is your goal?
Jul 14, 2006 8:54AM PDT

Do you want to view the browsing history for a particular browser: IE6, Firefox, Netscape, Mozilla, Opera, etc.?

CTRL-H will show IE's history from within that program.

Google: view history internet explorer

There are third-party IE history utilities.

one other question
Jul 14, 2006 10:54AM PDT

do you know if it is possible to not eliminate (delete) the history listings one by one? in other words, i am wanting to set up a method where i can have my system checked and the "checker" feel confident that i have not deleted anything

you asked my goals - i want to be able to demonstrate that i have not gone to any offensive sights - trying to build trust here - and know that i cannot defeat the checking.

make sense?

deletion and ethics

Right-click on the particular History entry and select "Delete." Who knows what other ways your computer or Internet traffic is being monitored, so it is impossible for me to give a failsafe.

My best advice: Don't go to offensive sites.

Pardon the lecture, but TRUST is a two-way street. You want someone's trust while you, youself, are betraying a trust. Something to ponder.

Thanks for the reply

The trust issue is that I don't want to be able to delete the listing on my own. It is a trust issue and a boundary issue for myself. A self-policing thing and I want to be able to give the password to another individual so that I don't have the temptation to delete my history. I am sure you can read between the lines here. It is for my own good. I would get a key logging system but believe that would interfere with my business needs - virus scanning software, FTP and VPN issues etc. I want to be able to have my history viewed and have the viewer rest assured at its results - again without having to have another system running in the background.

The measures taken in the past have been to limit content based on IE settings, but that is ineffective. I am not wanting to monitor someone else, but to set up a reasonably strong barrier for myself.

Thanks so much for your help
