History files in IE 6

Dec 15, 2003 6:35AM PST

I have come across some objectionable pages in the History files of IE 6. Some are just to a site and the home page, but others have numerous pages open in the site. I have confronted the person about this and there is total denial: never been there, done that. There is no other use of the computer. Is there ANY possible explanation for these sites to be there? (I know that I often get tricked into opening sites by misleading info. Even that is denied.)

Barring a trojan or malware that is accessing those sites, the only option left is the people that have access to the PC. Check for malware using the Anti-Parasite Suite. Since you have a list of URLs, you can always put them into a hosts file so access is denied. Wink

I have a supplmental list of over 30,000 porn sites which were part of the hosts file I use. If you want to put them into a hosts file of your own, drop me an email address via the Mods, and I'll send it along. Caveat, they will bulk the hosts to about 1.5 MB.

Another tip is to route all PCs in your place through a network server or serving workstation which only you control, then add the hosts in there so it cannot be tampered with. That should stop any savvy dudes bypassing it, though in this instance, if that guy didn't know the basics of about clearing the history, savvy ain't the word for him. Devil

I appreciate this message. I am not sure how this works, but I assume the moderator has my email address and can pass it on to you so that you can send me host file info.

If it's the one from Steve Martin's old site....

I have a copy but I don't have your email address. Just send in a mod alert on this post with your email address and we'll send you the adult hosts file.

Dale, if it isn't the one you're talking about (Feb. 17/03 36328 lines), send me a copy @ d4jf0rz001@sneakemail.com (don't worry - it's disposable) and I'll forward it on. Wink

Dale and Keith; however, I don't think it's appropriate to use the Modalerts as a workaround to get email address information in order to share files. If you have a file to share with someone, I would think that putting it up on your website and providing a link to it for the member to download directly would be the preferred method.

Sorry Toni. Won't happen again. One of the things I miss about the old system was the access to the email addresses.

I think we all miss that ability

There were plenty of times when I would pull a post because somebody put their personal information into the message and email them directly to let them know why it was pulled since that option wasn't given as a reason in the drop down list of removal choices. I've had many newbies email me back to thank me for doing so and wound up developing some pretty good internet friendships that way off-forum.

I was just afraid that by posting publicly what you and Dale were doing in order to help Terry out, that the modalerts would get abused and hoped to nip that quickly in the bud.

Thanks for understanding....
