Hijacked

Aug 23, 2004 12:44AM PDT

My IE start page has been hijacked by "coolwebsearch" and I'm unable to get rid of it. I use Spybot, but it couldn't identify the problem, so I installed Ad-aware. It found the culprit and I quarantined the files, but when I try to delete them, the program locks up.

Hijack this! also identified the bug, but it listed too many files for this computer dummy to recognize what can be deleted and what can not.

I'm running Windows ME and IE 6.0. Both have all the latest updates available as of last week.

Any suggestions how I can get rid of this mess?

The other tool is Adaware SE. Try that as well because todays pests are not removed with just one tool.

I would try CWShredder and Stinger as well. I believe you stated the OS as Win ME... if so remember to clean out the System Restore and once clean do enable SR again.

Best o'luck!

If the above are not enough then do an online Housecall and/or Panda scan. These take a while so be patient. Many times it takes several of these checkers to find the culprit... so be patient and keep trying.

If current versions of Adaware and Spybot don't kill it off, then you look up HIJACKTHIS and post according to the directions. If you post the log in these forums, then that means you didn't read the directions...

Just FYI.
