Question

High End Computer Can't Run Anything

May 4, 2017 3:14AM PDT

Alrighty, so a while back I was playing csgo when suddenly my pc froze, about 2-3 secs later it unfroze but the game was terribly laggy in terms of framerates. I tested other games and I'm still getting around 40fps MAX on any game, NO MATTER what settings I use.
Specs: https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/4tn7BP

Now. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling my GPU drivers. I've uninstalled my GPU drivers and put in my 970 and installed those drivers, still choppy fps. I've factory reset my pc, done virus scans on multiple anti viruses, Bought a new Harddrive, New RAM, and a new power supply. My cpu, memory and disk is under 10% in the task manager while idle.
Heaven results: Min: 6.9 Max: 71.3 Temp 62c (These results are poor compared to other 1070 results) Cpu temps reach 35c while in Heaven and gaming. I've done cpu stress tests and found nothing wrong. However when I have my 970 in my pc I get blue screens every now and then, so it could be possible that both graphics cards are faulty?

I posted this issue on another forum but had people responding to me who clearly had not thoroughly read what I wrote. One person recommended I update my bios, I read around online and not one person has stated that an up to date bios will have a significant performance increase over one that hasn't. And a bios that hasn't been updated just doesn't make sense to make my frames suddenly drop to 30s in any game.

Swapping GPUs is not a good idea.

I'd have to work hard to be sure the drivers are correct. In fact I have to give a nod to DDU to remove the old drivers and then only use the drivers for the new card.

As to the BIOS, it's to remove possible issues, not to cure the whole machine.

Let's hear about the PSU make and model just to be sure we're good there.

I'll be back later with a Speccy reading (what I would do if mine.)

I used DDU when I swapped my cards to test, and as for the PSU I swapped it to my Corsair CX 750M this was purely to test whether or not the problem was with the PSU as I know the CX's aren't great. The one I normally use is an XFX XTR Gold 650M.

Connect the pc wired.
Remove the side cover and point a small fan at the innards.

Temp Comment and Speccy reading.

These cards throttle at temp so for now be sure the case cover is off and see if the temp drops.

1. The usual Seagate. That can be it but for now, CHDKSK /F /X that drive and hope it's OK.

2. USB Drive. Unplug for now.

3. JAVA. Remove for now. Unless you know why it's installed.

4. Power Profile. Sett all of these to never for now. When you find the machine is fine, change to your choice.

5. Turn the following off. You have performance issues so we do this among other things.
Read https://www.howtogeek.com/224981/how-to-stop-windows-10-from-uploading-updates-to-other-pcs-over-the-internet/

6. Perfomance isssues. Uninstall anything we can do without until it works right.
a. Malwarebytes. Good thing but for now, let's tame it down.
b. Tweaking.com. you need to read
https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-windows-repair (It's fake!)

7. Do not use your router as the DNS. Change to 8.8.8.8 or 4.2.2.1.
Why is on the web.

All in all not too bad. I worry about the HDD since it's a model we see all the time (not in a good way.)

No noticeable difference but it's good to have those changes so thank you. The hard drive I use is fairly new and I bought it because I needed more space. The old hard drive was a Western Digital WD Black 1TB, bear in mind I still had this issue with the old hard drive. Now what's interesting that I've realised is that my frames are still the same regardless of the graphics quality, however the more stuff going on in the screen the more it lags, so if I'm in the training room on Overwatch by myself I'm getting around 50-high 70fps, still not what I used get, but when I'm online and there's a whole lot going on in front of me it dips to mid 40fps, so could this mean that it's a hardware issue?

Dips in FPS is fine.

Not a sign of PC troubles. All it means is the scene got complex. Try pulling back on settings.

However some feel that it should not dip and I'm not there to spend lunch hour to chat about all the reasons why.

While the 1070 is great, it's still possible to see FPS drops.

I understand what you're saying. But I could play Csgo on the very lowest graphics and play in a very small letter sized window and i still average at around 40fps which is the same if it's maxed out at full screen, only time the frames get higher or lower depends on what's going on in the screen, very rarely it goes up to barely 60 on very low settings in Csgo

There are prior discussions about low FPS in CSGO.
