Question

High CPU usage

Sep 13, 2016 8:13AM PDT

I just don't understand what's happening. I got a new computer and I'm pretty sure all the specs are better but while doing the same things I did on my other computer, the cpu usage is almost always at 100%.

I'm not sure what "all" system info is but I'm using windows 8.1 and I'm not sure what else would be useful, I don't know a lot about this stuff.

Answer
The most common issue I run into
Sep 13, 2016 8:59AM PDT

Is the owner installs something. I can't know what's different from stock or if this PC is a special with 1 GB RAM (some tablets do that) so tell more about this PC and if it did it new. That is, is it stock as can be? No added apps or antivirus?

Some info
Sep 13, 2016 1:42PM PDT

I've got 8gb of ram, it's a desktop. I haven't downloaded any antivirus stuff and I'm not sure what you mean by "apps" but I've downloaded a game and an addon for the game if that's what you mean.

It was totally new and then I downloaded those couple of things and now when I have the game and the internet browser running it's almost always at 100% or close to it and has some lag.

I also have a wireless usb adapter installed.

Given so little to work with.

I have to defer this back to the maker as a product warranty issue.

I know folk don't want to dig into their PCs but without details, I can't dig in either. There is no "one thing" that causes this issue. So we need clues as to what's different from new where it worked right.

Time to make it a warranty issue.

HOW many cores does your new computer have?
Sep 14, 2016 11:34AM PDT

If you have less than a Four core, with the add on's and it has no SSD drive attached, this could explain the issue.I made a similar mistake several years ago, and mistakenly bought a dual core, now although it's less than 2yrs old as far as being used,it was a waste of money.
Also, what are your internet speeds provided by your ISP?.
Run a speed test @ speedtest.net to find out your ping, download, upload speeds.

I have a lot of machines at the office.

I think we span the gamut from 1 to maybe 6 cores. Even the usual i7 with 4 cores shows 8 in task manager due to hyperthreading.

I see no need to do the speed test today. I'm all good.

Go into task manger and see what is using the CPU.
