Question

hiding a wifi signal

Apr 16, 2019 5:29AM PDT

Hi! I have an undesirable neighbor living next door,, no details. lol in the past I could see he had about 6 cameras running plus a mic. I bought 4 wireless cameras that use wifi and send alerts to my phone. is there ANY router, setting or product I can buy that can hide my signals. I rather not have him seeing what I've got running here.
TIA

You just use a very strong PW and don't broadcast your SSID. Change the PW regularly. Your signal cannot be hidden but it's broadcast name can be.

Just one problem.

Folk that hide the SSID often complain the devices don't connect or drop connection. You can try that hiding the SSID setup and if your devices drop you know where most of the problem is.

Besides it's been known that hiding the SSID is false security. WiFi scanners for over a decade pick up the hidden SSID. Let's call it false security.

Did you see your setup when you saw your neighbors? If not then you have nothing to worry about. You can hide your ssid but there are free apps that will still show your ssid. also some devices have problems finding hidden ssids when installing.

Here you'll find differing views. In your case, I'm thinking your concern is just about this one neighbor and not the entire neighborhood or folks driving by. Surely for every lock that's made, someone can find a way to make a key. So...this becomes a game of probability. What's the probability that this neighbor is a practising hacker and has a burning desire to peer into your house through your security system? Think about that before paranoia settles in too deeply.
