Hide Inactive Icons Check Box Unchecks When Windows Restarts.

Mar 7, 2004 12:01AM PST

Hey Everyone. I'm just having a small problem. I have checked the "Hide Inactive Icons" check box in the taskbar properties (Windows XP Home ed.), and it works perfectly, however when I restart windows, it is more often than not unchecked once explorer loads, and stays that way until I check it again. If there is anyone who know's how to fix this, it would be a huge help.
Thanks

Thank you for the suggestion, but I've also tried that, and it doesn't seem to work. I've tried manually changing the registry values that control this, and it works, but when I restart, the registry values are unchecked.

I'll share how I make it stick.

Now that you know which REGISTRY KEY is in play, use REGEDT32 instead. Set it as you want, but then change its SECURITY (right click Properties) to only give everyone READ access and nothing else.

More than once I did this and a worm that I hadn't encountered before revealed itself as it tried to alter registry keys.
