"Hidden Layered Window" Error

Nov 22, 2004 11:09AM PST

Hello,

This just started happening to me about 2 weeks ago.. About 3 out of 5 times when I log off my PC, I get an error that says the above has stopped responding and when I select END NOW, I get the same thing again and after I click END NOW for the 2nd time, the PC just black screens and I have to give the good old 3 finger solute (VTRL-ALT-DEL) and select LOG OFF and I am finally able to logoff. I can't find anything on the web.

I am running XP SP2 with Zone Alarm and McAfee virus scan..

The other weird thing is that so far it appears to just be happening under my login.. I tested this using my wife's login and the log off goes without a hitch each and every time so I am thinking a corrupt profile but not sure how to validate this..

Any help is greatly appreciated because I really don't want to start all over again...

Thanks

Run all the viruses and spyware tests shown in the following Antiparasite Tools message. IOW, a firewall and an antivirus aren't enough for defense.

Thanks Cetin...

I did all that and nothing unusual turned up and I am still getting the error. It only happen on my profile so I am wondering if the profile is corrupted.. I don't see anything else that is running that could be causing it...

If there are any other ideas out there, that would be great. If not, I think I will just format my drive and start over since it's been a while...

Thanks for all the help

Yes, it could be a corrupt user profile. Why do you want to reformat ? You can create a new account and copy the data from corrupted profile to the newer one. For details, read the #1 article (How to copy data from a corrupted user profile to a new profile) from the following message.

You are welcome and ...?Good Luck?,
