hidden (Admin.) acc. revisited, on XP home..

Nov 24, 2003 9:32PM PST

Here are some answers I posted on 11-22 after I did a safeboot.
Hi, David. Under my computer there are 2 folders listed. Shared documents and 1 with our (names) docs. When I booted into safe mode, I got a screen with 2 choices Admin. or our names. I clicked admin., did not get asked for password.Next screen said loading personal setting, computer booted to a blank black screen with the words ( safe mode) in all 4 corners.Got into boot.ini file unchecked safe boot and rebooted. I think I answered all of questions.

Thanks, Rick

P.S., one more thing I have found. The shared docouments folder listed under my computer,is dated OCT.2001. 5 months before I bought the computer with the OS and all programs preinstalled.

Rick,

"When I booted into safe mode, I got a screen with 2 choices Admin. or our names. I clicked admin., did not get asked for password.Next screen said loading personal setting, computer booted to a blank black screen with the words ( safe mode) in all 4 corners."

This indicates that your hidden Administrator exists and you are quite safe!

Congrats.

I fogot if you have an XP CD?
If so you can try and access the Recovery using Administrator and no password.

Thanks, David!!!! This is a good thing.. As for a "real" XP cd, unsure?? The computer is a Gateway, and what they sent is a Gateway cd that, states on it Operating System (Windows XP Home Edition). Plus I have 3 other Gateway recovery cd's..I have never had to use any of them ..And hope I never do........

Thanks very much, Rick

Try SFC using that CD.

"Gateway cd that, states on it Operating System (Windows XP Home Edition)."

This CD is your XP CD so keep it carefully.

In fact you can test it by running SFC /SACNNOW and it will asks you for the XP CD. Insert this CD and see if it accepts it.
