Hibernation problem

Nov 21, 2003 2:34PM PST

I run XPHE which is mainly used during the day for my business. If I am going to be away from the deck for a while I will hibernate my system as the if a customer calls it is much faster to boot to the desk top to provide them with answers.
A problem has recently popped up as follows; When I boot out of hib. if I accidental move my mouse or even bump it or my desk Hib. will freeze up & I have to power off & re boot.
I ran SFC, which found no problems, Installed the latest drivers for my Intel wired optical mouse & this also did not resolve the problem any suggestions as to what to try next would be appreciated.

The first thing I do on Compaq or HP PCs...
Nov 21, 2003 3:37PM PST

is disable hibernation features. They always seem to freeze for me (Compaq WinME and HP WinXP). I tried to fix the issue on the Compaq WinME PC but eventually gave up and just disabled it. First time the HP froze, I disabled hibernation features and haven't had a problem since. I just lock the PC or activate the screensaver (with password) if I am away from my PC.

Hibernation problem = WARRANTY.

Your new machine should function with this feature. HP, Sony, Dell and others do have this working when the machine arrives. If not, you call them and have them fix it.

After a person settles in and muddles with the machine a bit, it may be a feature that will break as added components and drivers for such are not written to handle hibernation. Rather than fix that, the cheap way out is to disable hibernation and just have the monitor power down. BIG power savings and this works 99% of the time.
