Hi Give this a try go to the control panel and click on power options. I used to run never, never, and never. I also had no problems such as yours after setting these limits.
Hi all: I have an old pentium III, 500 mhz, 384 MB sdram, INTEL SE440BX-2 MB.
BIOS v. 4S4EB2X0.86A.0024.P17. Video Card ATI Rage Pro 64, integrated sound (yamaha), generic cd rom, generic dvd rom, generic floppy drive.
Win98se, clean install. All security patches and updates installed. No firewall or anti-virus programs loaded, yet.
The Problem: The machine works perfectly well until it is left unattended. After approx. 5-10 minutes, I get the black screen. The video seems to shut down. The only way to re-open windows is to manually power off, then reboot.
I have checked the BIOS setting for standby, hibernation settings, etc. This is disabled in the BIOS.
I checked the Intel site for latest BIOS, but no updates available for Win98se O.S.
The latest video drivers (ATI)are installed and working properly in Device Manager.
This happens while the computer is idle, or while running apps.
It seems to be related to keyboard or mouse activity.
As long as there is input from one or the other, there is no problem. As soon as the machine is left setting with no input for 5-10 minutes, this occurs.
Am I missing something in the settings? If anyone has had similar experience, I would appreciate your input.
