Hibernate problem

Jul 1, 2007 2:00AM PDT

I cannot hibernate Windows XP for some days. I don't understand what is wrong. Everything is working fine except hibernation. When I click on the hibernate button, nothing happens. Note that hibernation is enabled in my PC, otherwise I could not access hibernate button.

What is wrong and how to fix this? I can standby my PC. Thanks in advance.

No make, model, etc?

When you post the words in red say "Note: If you're asking for technical help, please be sure to include all your system info, including operating system, model number, and any other specifics related to the problem."

This is so we don't have to ask every member for that.

The common issue is an incomplete install of the OS such as motherboard or other drivers. There are some instances where firewalls or other software interferes or some USB device. Tell more.

Sorry. I thought that telling the operating system will suffice. My system is Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4 GHz, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard disk, 256 MB NVIDIA GeForce 6200 PCIE graphics.

I think you have given the answer. Recently I installed a USB modem. The modem or the driver may be the culprit. Is there any fix to that?

If so, a test.

You unplug and try again.

As to the make and model I didn't see that. If self built the repeating cause is incomplete OS installs. Old BIOS, missing or old motherboard drivers and so on. A complete post saves us asking questions about this area and gets you an answer faster.

Problem exists

The PC was not self built. My vendor did that. I bought it just 4 months ago. So I think motherboard (ASUS P5B-VM) and BIOS drivers are all updated. Moreover, I could hibernate few days ago, when I did not install the GPRS modem. Even with the previous installaions of Windows XP in the same machine.

Another problem arises. Sometimes I can standby my pc, sometimes I cannot! I tried hibernating after unplug the modem. I did not succeed. Is the driver responsible for this? The driver is the most updated (I think) because I downloaded the driver and installed it last week.

(NT) "I could hibernate few days ago" = System Restore to then.
