gonna re-install
Nov 30, 2011 5:14PM PST

given that i changed all my hardware excepts my hard and optical drives and power supply without a fresh install.
this is probably a very deep system configuration issue so i'll re-install my os on a freshly formated clean partition.
i'll post back whether or not it worked.

If you had told that in your first post ...

thank you

and i do they cover pretty much everything i do already pre-re-install
and i'm just finishing downloading setup files for my programs
after...
backing up, opera config folder
comodo internet security program file and exporting the configuration
all my libraries and my desktop
and my game program files
and locating all pertinent drivers for audio card (file), motherboard(cd), and graphics card(cd).
i think i got everything

I didn't read that info.

Thanks Kees, this explains so much. Changing all the hardware means the procedure is very different from the approach I was taking.

It still is a mystery why the usual Live CD could not find and delete the file in question.

Is that the error on boot?

no error on boot
Nov 26, 2011 4:14AM PST

just that i can't get it to hibernate at all. that error code is from the commandline command to enable hibernation'
and i can't find any related event viewer logs
i'm trying to figure this out because i prefer hibernate to sleep or shutdown
and i can't seem to find any hibernfil.sys file to delete either. its odd another machine has no hibernate option too
spec
a785ge mothboard

Answer
There can be issues with the HDD.

just did the enable command on the other machine
Nov 26, 2011 4:37AM PST

powercfg -h on
it worked.
i noticed something the other machine has catalyst control center
the first one has amd vision engine control center i'll try some different video drivers
i think i'm zeroing in on a cause here.

it didn't work tried the drivers from the amd site
Nov 26, 2011 4:12PM PST

same issue i uninstalled everything except ahci driver i'm rolling back b/c it broke my internet security
500gb hdd sata 2(3gbps stndrd) running in ahci i 'll try switching it to ide mode to see if that works
i noticed something if its in ahci mode it won't show up in the bios until after ahci hdd initialization
i'm hopeful that this will work as the issue appeared after i upgraded my mobo and graphics card (straight install no os re-installation) and everything went smoothly no errors no oddities.

Nov 27, 2011 4:05AM PST

this is what i've tried powercfg -h off/on
no go the same message except the errror code changed 0xc0000022
takeown fails
doesn't show in kubuntu live cd
getting Access is denied errors if i try to delete from any command line
same results with pagefile disabled
whats odd though is that everything can see it
just nothing can delete it

Let's try something.
Nov 27, 2011 4:41AM PST

Boot up an UBUNTU CD (how to make, use is at ubuntu.com)

We don't install it, it's clickity clickity just like Windows and we can delete it from that LIVE CD.

no luck
Nov 27, 2011 5:22PM PST

didn't show in live CD even after pressing Ctrl + h
power cfg / a reprts that only s3 sleep is enabled if i cahnge the bios setting to s1 the nit reports only s1 i'm beginning to think a re-install may be the last thing to try however that would take a couple of days to set-up for (back up data and application data locating and backing up program files, export configuration from comodo)
btw my other user is rwp_17(just couldn't remember the password and thought it'd be easier to sign in with google

What didn't show?
Nov 28, 2011 4:46AM PST

I've used other bootable OSes for years to delete such things.

hiberfil.sys
Nov 28, 2011 5:10AM PST

i looked at the root of the drive and it wasn't there so i pushed Ctrl + h to show hidden files and it still wasn't there

So back to Windows.

no go no luck
Nov 28, 2011 7:17AM PST

booted into safe mode opened command prompt
typed cd c:\
dir /a:H
saw hiberfil.sys
so attrib -h -s -r hiberfil.sys
access denied
so attrib -h hiberfil.sys attrib -s hiberfil.sys
both access denied
did it all over again after switching user net user administrator /active:yes
switched to administrator do it again, ... same results
switch back net user administrator /active:no
reboot
i guess you should know the upgrade process i did
from 785ge with 4gb ddr2-1066 to 880g-e45 with 8gb ddr3-1333 in first machine (same cpu of course) and no- os re-install just installed the drivers
moved 785ge with the 4gb ddr2-1066 to other machine along with ide hdd 160gb and a fresh install 7 home premium sp1
