Question

Hi, something seems to be wrong with one of my files

May 7, 2014 6:46AM PDT

Hello everyone

I am new here and was wondering if someone can help me with something? There seems to be something wrong with one of my files.

I wonder what I would need to do if I am unable to open a file that has been saved into a nested folder. I already double clicked onto the file, but it still will not open. I am unable to copy the file to my own folder.

Kind regards

Harry

Clarification Request
Did you try this after booting to SAFE MODE?

As Safe Mode is widely documented I'll wait for your answer and more details. What is the full path to this file?

Hello R. Proffitt

I recently found out the problem with my file. I learnt not to name the file with over 255 characters, as stated by the Microsoft NTFS system. Reducing the file length has solved my problem. There was nothing wrong with Windows.

Thank you for helping, and I apologise for not replying back sooner.

Kind regards

Harry

I hope you see why I asked about the full path.

Re: can't open or copy a file

There many reasons for that. Please tell
- the full name of the file, like c:\windows\temp\abcde.xyz, don't forget the extension (the part after the last dot, as you know from .pdf or .mp3).
- what happens if you double click it
- what happens if you drag and drop the file to another folder
