General discussion

Hey! I'm Baaaaack!!

Nov 24, 2003 1:31AM PST

Been out of the loop for a couple of weeks with the move to my new home. Sheesh! What a major pain in the rear!! LOL I didn't realize the amount of "stuff" (nicest word I can use here) I had accumulated over the years. I think I will be digging through boxes for a long, long time before I feel truly settled! Happy I got my antenna set up last night for my wireless Internet and am now "connected" once again.

Anyway, I have missed y'all. I have access to the Net at work, but I have been too busy to even check on things from there. I tried to look back on some of what has been going on recently but there just seems to be so much to catch up on!! I saw several threads with "This Message Has Been Deleted" as the major topic. That's a bit disappointing - but I guess, in some ways, that is what Speakeasy is all about Sad I think I will just start fresh from today Wink

If I can ever get the time to get some pics posted on my website of my new place, I will send the link along. I'm pretty dang proud of it. Made my first mortgage payment last week. I have been informed that the first and the last payments are the only ones that actually create a sense of excitement. Happy

So, in summary, it's nice to be back in action once more. I look forward to "hanging out" with y'all again.

Take care,
Marcia/Oregon/USA

And good to have you back, Marcia!

No real news sine your hiatus. I did win the Power Ball Lottery, and took the immediate amount rather than over a zillion years. My Lamborgini was almost a year old, so it was time to buy a new one. I ordered one in a lime color so it would be noticed. Thinking about adding 2 more stories to this house to make it four. Sounds like a good round number, and will make it tower over the other homes in the neighborhood, and be noticed.Maybe it might draw tour buses. The neighbors might not like that, but, heck, they are gone all day at work. Happy

Seriously, Louis has been back a few times. MzLee has returned from a vacation. Toni just returned from her mother's funeral. I think you knew about Cindi's mom pasing away. Paul C's Indianapolis Colts and my Tennessee Titans are tied for first in their division.

I'm sure looking forward to seeing your photos! I know the thrill of buying a home. I often watch "House Hunters" on HGTV as it''s funto see them finding the house they want.

It sounds to me like you bought a home, not just a house!

Hi Marcia,

It's great to have you back, and how exciting to be in your own home! I remember how excited I was when I bought my house. You're right about the first and last payments...all the rest are just a pain! Wink

There's been some contention here, but many of the "message deleted" threads have been a result of a duplicate bug they haven't quite squashed yet.

Didn't realize how much I missed y'all until I read the nice responses from Angeline, Cindi and Mz Lee. You folks are just so great! Happy

Yes, I got myself a "home". And you're right, Angeline, (from something you had said before), the old places can hold a special charm.

Take care, and I'll be hanging around in-between "projects" LOL

Welcome back to your home away from home, Marcia.

The "duplicates" bug has reared its ugly head, so most of those 2-message threads that start with "this message has been deleted" are a deleted duplicate with a Sysop note saying that's why it went. It's rare that a thread heads south from the get-go, though it can happen!

It is sort of like a "home away from home" around here Happy That's counted as one of the good things in my life. It's nice, too, that I don't have to make a house payment for it! LOL

And, yes, I did notice that some of the "deleted message" posts were duplicates, or the like. Trying to get used to the new software like everyone else.

Hi Marcia
Nov 24, 2003 8:10AM PST

Hopoe you get to stay in and enjoy that home a long time.

Stuff!! Know what you mean. Don't throw out the things of "doubtful" value. Dig a BIG hole in the back yard, line it with pond liner plastic, enclose each "valuable antiquity" in a baggie, throw it down the hole. When finished sorting, fill the hole with "postcrete" cut two to one with sand to two inches above the memorabilia, cover with pond liner, then 1 inch real concrete, then fill with soil and grass over the top.

Leave a note in your will that there is a time capsule awaiting investigation by your grandchildren.

Hi, Ian
Nov 25, 2003 8:42AM PST

Yes, I plan to be here a very long time. This is the town I was born in, and lived most of my life only 45 miles away where my folks still reside. I have a youngster that is only in 3rd grade, a couple of good jobs, prospects for some other employment, and, of course, a 30-year mortgage of which only one payment has been made on!!! LOLOL (I plan to make extra payments beginning the first of the new year.)

Your idea of burying the "treasures" is about the most interesting thing I have heard for the question of "What in the heck should I do with this?" I will give it some consideration. Happy

Take care,

I hope that your life is returning to "normal" so that you can begin enjoying the new digs without all the little hassles that follow a big move...

My life has never been the definition of "normal" LOL

I have been a counselor with a county mental health agency and am currently a social worker in Hospice. You would think I would know all the tricks for staying out of the traps and keeping things on an even keel.........but........well..........I guess I'm pretty good at making do! Happy Happy

Thanks for the good wishes,

I think I will be digging through boxes for a long, long time before I feel truly settled! I got my antenna set up last night for my wireless Internet and am now "connected" once again.

Better make that "a long, long, long, long time" after you hook up to the internet. Wink

How perceptive of you. Do you really think I will need to double the "longs"? Ok, Ok, I know the answer to that one!! I have only sorted through and emptied one box since the WWW has been at my fingertips here in my new home. My excuse was that there was so much to catch up on! Wink

You are giving away all my secrets and exposing my weaknesses!! LOL

Welcome back Marcia ...

... it can get hairy to navigate, but two workarounds do help:

1. Change browser page style settings to override CNet's and you can have your read links a different color from unvisited ones. I have one infrequently used browser that is now for CNet only until they fix the message marking.

2. If you hit upon the 7 reply limit, you can still reply by changing the 5208 in the URL to a 5224 and hitting enter or Go.

Enjoy the home. They get frustrating at times, but nothing beats your own even if the bank owns most of it LOL HappyHappy

I also discovered the need to place my own "NT" for a non-text-follows subject line, along with having to put something in the message body portion to post. That one confused me for a minute or two. Happy

I had also ran across the message from Lee a while back about his own headaches in getting the forum up to speed and the bugs worked out. That was nice of him to post that for us. It might be frustrating on this end as a member, but I WOULD NOT want his job!!

Take care, Evie,

Nov 25, 2003 9:02AM PST

I only moved a distance of about 4 blocks. The farthest I have moved before is from Oregon to Wyoming, and then back to Oregon. I don't know which is worse - doing it all in one fell swoop with a U-Haul, or moving within the same town a few blocks away! What a mess!! Happy Of course it made a difference that I had been in my recent rental home for 12 years, and prior to that had moved about every 2 years. It's amazing the amount of "stuff" we accumulate. Ian's above suggestion was priceless.

Happy Thanksgiving to you,

Marcia
