Hey, CBS, how's that liberal bias workin' for ya?

Funny how their Benghazi story blew up in their faces.

"But here's another angle that's gotten little attention so far, and I'll do more on it later: Few seem to realize that a former Fox News exec became the head of the CBS News in February 2011. He is David Rhodes. His bio at CBS declares:

" "He directs network newsgathering for all CBS News platforms including television, CBSNews.com, and CBS News Radio.

" "With CBS News Chairman Jeff Fager, Rhodes has led a division-wide rejuvenation of the storied CBS News brand, emphasizing the Original Reporting of top broadcast journalists around the world. A rededication to the news division's hard-news roots runs through every broadcast."

"Pardon my chuckle over that last sentence.

"The bio also reveals:

" " Rhodes began his career as a Production Assistant at the newly-launched Fox News Channel in 1996, where he later became Vice President of News. At the network he managed coverage of three presidential elections, wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, hurricanes including Katrina, and was the channel's Assignment Manager on the news desk the morning of September 11, 2001."

"So, imagine: This was the guy who worked hand-in-glove on the biased, often propagandistic, Fox "coverage" of the run-up to the Iraq war, the 2000/2004/2008 elections, the Plame affair, the worst years in Iraq, and all other things Bush and Cheney, and so on."

So nice to see that Fox's predetermined, dictated-from-the-top, fact-free sort of propaganda hasn't affected the mainstream. Much.

You remember Ed Murrow, that paragon of "liberal" bias whom Righties love to hate? You remember how he remained silent through much (more than 10 years) of the Red Scare and McCarthy Era, while long time colleagues and friends (William Shirer) got character assassinated and booted from CBS without a demurral from Murrow? You remember his 1954 broadcast about McCarthy couched in the mildest terms? Fine
Do you remember what happened to him?
He was booted. Within 6 Months.

Not off the air or the network. He was just shuffled out of day to day operations into a tiny, special projects unit which produced little content. Essentially he was disavowed by the Network despite it having been considered one of broadcasting's finest moments. That's how liberal CBS was in its golden "liberal" era.

Now it's worse, and so is the rest of the Mainstream Media. The fact that so many of Fox's faces, like Chris Wallace, Brit Hume, etc came from those liberal bastions should have given somebody a clue that the "liberal media" wasn't all that liberal. But of course that would require two things in short supply. Memory, and critical thinking.

It's so much easier when someone else chews up your food, digests it, and then feeds you the resulting slurry.

all that considered

maybe the problem is instead your perception.

Why, I read copiously, including other sides of the issue.

I post what seems most likely to be correct as I balance all the contending views.

Maybe the problem is your perception, or lack of critical thinking, or inclination to despise anything to the left of Ted Cruz which is an awful lot of space, and country. But that's just a thought.

except you are the one complaining

I saw the stories, didn't consider it worth taking note of much and passed it by.

the defining difference
Nov 11, 2013 2:14AM PST

seems to be that Dan Rather among others presented what they knew was tainted news, whereas Lara Logan only discovered that later, and then corrected it. You may recall she was also the reporter who was brutally raped during one assignment.

Same article at The Nation. contains a link to Digby.

"Great post here by Digby on a Lara Logan speech one year ago (and see video) where she exposed herself as a raging, biased hawk on exacting revenge for the Benghazi attack. Digby, the longtime ace blogger, also looks at other Logan statements about Libya and Afghanistan, showing that likely her own bias led to not asking right questions on her star "source." Logan even admits that her boss had to remind her that she was seek the truth and not merely trying to prove her own views.

" "Needless to say, the fact that she fell for such a clearly ridiculous hoax was due to her biases. She shows in that speech that she had already made up her mind about what happened. And 60 Minutes should have been professionally skeptical of her story because of that. Logan's agenda blinded her to the fact that she was being played." " Emphasis mine.

You keep on about Lara Logan, but...
Nov 11, 2013 2:09AM PST

...what I read is about;

" It came after Jeff Fager, the executive producer, told Michael Calderone of Huff Post that, yes, Dylan Davies had told them he lied to his boss about where he was on the fateful night."

I'm not after Lara Logan at all. My complaint was
Nov 11, 2013 11:44PM PST

primarily against Fager and Rhodes. I did however offer an indication that Logan had a particular pre-disposition to chase the case at least 10 months before the story aired.

Who went on a witch hunt following the bombing of the Marine Barracks in Lebanon? Was the Administration pilloried? Did they protest Reagan or his Secretary of State or try to destroy either of them? Not remotely.

I'd simply like equal treatment for the President, and the Secretary of State for Democratic and Republican regimes. And, while Colin Powell was criticized, he was treated with far more respect than Hilary Rodham Clinton for his transmitting lies and misinformation before the Nation and the United Nations. The trouble is it was clear that he was lied to, just as Ms Clinton was lied to in her briefings by the CIA et al.

How's that liberal media and this
Nov 14, 2013 10:52PM PST

administration's lies about Benghazi feeling about now........now that the hearings from actual survivors and witnesses to it are talking? Including a tape from Young (R) now dead is released by his family showing that nothing that this administration said matches up with the actual facts of what was happening on the ground?
