A house divided against itself ...

In reply to: Here we go again -- Nader makes FL ballot

I can't remember the exact quote right now & I don't feel like goggling it.

It's too bad that our politics has become so polarized that a liberal democrat like Kerry still isn't liberal enough to satisfy the "my way or the highway" wing of the party.

I'm not a big fan of any of the candidates, including Nader, but I do have to wonder what Nader hopes to accomplish by pushing his losing candidacy this way.

Hi, Dr. Bill.

It was Abe Lincoln -- "A house divided cannot stand." I think it was part of the Lincoln-Douglas debates, but can't be sure w/o googling. I share the same fear -- the country has not been so polarized at least since the VietNam War, and perhaps since the Civil War; at least in the VietNam era compromise wasn't seen as betraying your principles. That notion began with Newt Gingrich, and led to the current mantra of the Republican party: "either you're with us, or you're against us." Unfortunately (thanks to Bush and co), we've started saying it to our historical allies, and the result has not been pretty.

Nader's only purpose is ego gratification

In reply to: Re: A house divided against itself ...

Men of achievement by necessity, are almost always men of great ego.

I would say then, that Nader's only purpose in his spoiler campaign is to gratify his own sense of self-importance. We might do well to look no deeper than that.

Worse though is how, with unmelting pats of butter residing in their maws, Fl. republican leadership welcomes this added diversity to the short list of political egotists grasping towards the brass ring.

I was dismayed to see Florida cause the past election to get thrown.

I am dismayed to see Nader's pride and Republican obsequiousness synergize for the same evil result yet again. Welcome to the last US presidency? Chancellor Cheney, am I deluding myself in seeing some drastic change is coming up soon? Triggered by some horrible, unknowable terrorist attack like dirty bombs in Times Square, will the next US presidency, be our last? To be more caustic yet, I think the regime if it comes will be delivered by a dirty bomb of religious righteousness. Islamic or Moroni(c), some ilk or ism or another that speaks as cooingly as a Falwell but stomps infidels like an archangelic elephant

That's not it

The republican policy is "Either you're with us or you're antiamerican."
