General discussion

Here are the facts of what will happen

Apr 11, 2020 3:58AM PDT

Some are saying this virus 'may' be seasonal and another wave will come in the fall. In reality, that second wave will come no matter what because the entire country got locked down. Too many people have been isolated and never got exposed to something they might have been able to become immune to. Once you begin opening up the businesses, those people will now get infected from 'hangers on' since not everyone will be free of it, and the spread will start again.

Who do you think will get blamed for opening the country up 'too soon'?

Wait for a vaccine like some want (up to 18 months) and watch the country's economy kill us or open it up and have more deaths and have that be a liberal political 'outrage'......… a no win situation politically no matter which way you go at this point. It also doesn't seem to matter to the media that most of those who die did not die BECAUSE of the virus but because they happen to GET the virus at the same they were already battling severe illnesses that caused their immune systems to be compromised. There are NO stats that show how many have ACTUALLY died from the virus itself....and I believe that's being done deliberately.

of death stats that they gave.....how many cancer patients got it by self-infliction do you think? 606,000 vs 23,000 = .038% across the country

Gun deaths for 2018 total in USA = 40,000 … shut down the country? They weren't self-inflicted because suicides are counted separately.

Gun deaths for 2018 total in USA = 40,000 … shut down the country?

IF "gun deaths" are communicable...SURE...shut down the country.

communicable.....(of a disease) able to be transmitted from one sufferer to another; contagious or infectious.

You're not the only clueless one.
From AP today. "[Dr Phil] McGraw appeared on Laura Ingraham’s show Thursday. He pointed out the number of people who died because of cigarettes, auto accidents and swimming pool accidents and noted that those didn’t cause any lockdowns."

Lockdowns useless for these, too.
He's not an MD, so he can be forgiven for not knowing that pools are locked down in case of a health problem with the water, not for accidents, unless repairs are needed.
But it's well within his memory when smokers could smoke almost everywhere whereas now it's almost nowhere. Gonna smoke? Isolate yourself.

IF the government is SERIOUS about how bad tobacco is for people, including second hand smoke, why do you think it's never become a banned product? They want to ban guns, which is our constitutional right to have, though.
Clueless? Not hardly, dear. Aren't you even a little bit tired of the government (actually a handful of politicians) dictating to us about what's good and bad for us, and then reversing themselves when they realize how much money THEY could make off of that product? Such as weed.....one of the first things John Boehner did when he retired was get on the board of the weed industry, and he's not the only one.

Enough with your babble, drp….and actually answer my question, please. What data has been debunked since you accuse me of 'misusing' it....without actually referring to what 'IT' is.

Weren't YOU complaining that it was banned in stadiums?

Can YOU smoke in a theater? Banned?

Can YOU smoke in a restaurant? Banned?

Tell everyone where you can/do smoke....the list will be shorter than listing where YOU CAN'T smoke.

YOUR living room, YOUR kitchen, In bed, YOUR barns(oh wait you wouldn't want any dry straw to catch fire)

Can/do YOU smoke around your grandkids? Banned OR you don't do it because you don't want them to see anyone /you smoking? Banned yourself?

Second OR fourth time I've asked THAT question of you...still NO response/answer.

Perhaps I'll "get lucky" today....

Not one element of which can be helped by any shutdowns"
Your complaint is shutdowns. You listed several "plagues" that aren't treated by shutdowns. That's because shutdowns aren't part of any recognized, useful, science-based, adult trwatment plan for treating those problems. Debunked.
You aren't unlucky, you're blind to reason.

I smoke where I choose to
Apr 18, 2020 4:03PM PDT

not because I'm told I'm not allowed to, and yes, I have smoked in areas where it's not allowed. The most that's ever happened when/if I've been 'caught' has been to be told to put it out. I do...but because it's my choice to do so. I've never been one to smoke at a dinner table unless others were also smoking so eating out now and not smoking until after we're done and I can go outside has never been an issue for me. I'm not a chain smoker so not having a cigarette for a few hours or even a few days if I'm in the hospital for some reason is not anything that bothers me either. I always ask people I don't know if they mind if I have a cigarette near them, and if they object, I don't, since I'm not aware of any condition, like asthma or an allergy that would be aggravated, they might have. I'm polite about my addiction, which is more than I can say for people like you who would have a conniption fit, which is obvious from your online reaction and I'm nowhere near you. LOL

The PRODUCT has never been banned by the US Government because they know there is too much revenue coming to them from it. There are certain areas that Fed, State, and local governments have decided by law that we aren't allowed to smoke in, but the product itself is still legal.

Explain to me why you think they won't outright make it illegal/ban it if it's really the killer they have tried to make it out to be? Are people addicted to it....yes....but people are also addicted to alcohol and weed and neither are made illegal. When they DID try to make alcohol illegal, they reversed that pretty quickly when revenue to the government was at stake. For years weed was illegal until the State governments decided money could be had if they had control over it so that's been reversed as well.

This is about all the 'luck' you're going to get, I guess....I responded, now it's your turn. Dispute what I've stated if you can.

RE: but the product itself is still legal.
Apr 18, 2020 7:50PM PDT

I NEVER said it wasn't legal. I NEVER said the government wasn't receiving money from tobacco, alcohol or weed.

You think it's ONLY the government that ALLOWS smoking "for the revenue"?

How bout casinos? THEY allow smoking AND many non-smokers will sit next to a smoker IF they think they have a lucky machine, other non-smokers will move.

Many casinos have high ceilings and spend $$$$ for ventilation systems that are VERY efficient in sucking the smoke out, and even inject perfume (that you claim to not prefer the smell of)

Smokers are in the minority in North America and it makes good financial sense to BAN smoking in certain areas.

RE:now it's your turn. Dispute what I've stated if you can.

The most that's ever happened when/if I've been 'caught' has been to be told to put it out. I do...but because it's my choice to do so.

"told"?... You "chose to" AFTER you were "told"?..... Yea, OK.

RE:I'm polite about my addiction, which is more than I can say for people like you

Admitting you have an "addiction" is the first step.

Addiction is a complex condition, a brain disease that is manifested by compulsive substance use despite harmful consequence.

Polite?

I didn't get that impression from this post by you

I don't give a crap if people don't love me for being a smoker. I DO give a crap that we are exploited for money for their pet projects and rates while they publicly ban us from areas we pay for. I've had people who reeked of cheap perfume and/or body odor turn their nose up at me and publicly make comments because my coat smells like cigarette smoke

Nations, and can ignore state and federal rules. They do operate under state Gaming Commissions, which regulate the gambling. And who wouldn't want an honest casino? Moneymaker anyway.
BUT as you noted, some are advertising smoke-free environments on the floor, not just at the dinner tables.
BTW casinos everywhere have some of the best food at good prices. They don't want you to leave. Grin

Apr 19, 2020 5:38PM PDT

Yesterday I went back to Barry's book to research something. Ended up re-reading about a third of it, mostly about the US military's well-intentioned response which failed miserably but led to some positive results in the field afterward.

Connection: Influenza is not a corinavirus. They test science.
A pandemic is s pandemic. They test society.
All the comments on CBS matched counterparts in Barry. The stoopid people exacerbated the situation. The thoughtful people helped, as far as they were able.
The results, so far, are identical.
