Also, who is the hosting service?
Our small home business has used a hosting service for the last 8 or so years. We use it only for email accounts (3) and may soon start to develop a simple website. We have had difficulty with servers going down frequently and today have been unable to get our email at all -- had the same problem 5 days ago. When we attempted to call them, customer service was unavailable and we couldn't even access them through their website. When I tried to find them in a directory of hosting sites (so I could read reviews), they weren't listed. Does this mean they have probably gone belly-up? If so, what happens to our domain name? I signed up an hour ago with IX and they are having trouble transfering our domain name. Can anyone offer me any ideas or insights about what is going on?
The hosting service is hostdepot. And that's the name of the registrant for our domain, per your link to whois. I finally found an email from hostdepot saying that they would be down for maintenance all day (last) saturday. On Sunday, we got a few emails but today, Monday, we're having difficulty again. Today when I called I was on hold for 10 minutes. When I got through, they told me they were aware of an "issue" with their email server and hoped to have it resolved today. She said the issue is likely related to the maintenance they did on Saturday. They are not being very forthcoming with any kind of information and we're getting extremely frustrated!
Tuesday a.m. -- mail server still out. Now when I call I only get a voice recording saying they are working on the issue. I can't even hold. I would transfer the domain immediately except that I'm afraid the emails sitting backed-up on their server won't ever come through. We have a busy consulting practice and are just about shut down by this snafu. Do you know if that is the situation? If we transferred our domain today, how would we get the emails sent since last Saturday? We will definitely change web hosts as soon as this is resolved. Only question is whether we can do it before it's resolved. I'm so frustrated, I'd like to file a class-action lawsuit -- if only I could find other customers who are being abused. WHY DIDN'T THEY ANTICIPATE THESE PROBLEMS? AND WHY DIDN'T THEY HAVE A BACKUP PLAN IN PLACE BEFORE PERFORMING 24-HOUR MAINTENANCE????????
