Question

Help!!!BitLocker Probelm with Decryption

Hey, am having a problem with my external hard drive which is: TRANSCEND 1TB STOREJET on windows 10. IWhen decrypting my hdd it stopped around 60-70%, I don't quite remember because this happened about a week ago. After it stopped, it said I should do /chkdsk /r, I did that nothing happened and my windows explorer was not responding. So I disconnected it from my PC. The windows explorer worked, after I put it back it said I should put my password but when I put it nothing happened it just stayed there, I waited for 1 hour nothing worked, I tried finding a solution online but unfortunately, none of them worked.
Pls help me, I have very very important files there.

Here is a video that shows what I mean: https://youtu.be/GtyNpf5BtOk

Answer
This is why we backup.

And NEVER leave our last good copy in a single/encrypted device.

The lesson here is that externals are not reliable and backups are cheap.

In the future forget adding more reasons for the volume to fail (bitlocker.)

I didn't know

Am new to external hard drives, I don't know anything about them. I just store stuff. Pls i need the files on my hard drive. Is there a way to remove BitLocker by formatting it?

Sure.

There are tools like DBAN (read before use) and removing partitions, etc to try to make the drive work again. Recovery is not cheap and there are so many that learn backup is not optional this way.

So yes to starting over. But as you discover, formatting is done after we wipe the drive, create a new partition and then format the new partition. If I write more I would be duplicating the internet.

Files

If those files are important find a data recovery house.
Surely Brazil must have a few.

Do not use dban.
Do not format.
