Help with Wireless Zero Configuration defaults

Feb 17, 2009 7:36PM PST

hi,
i am running Windows XP on a Toshiba EA60 but recently had to install a new hard drive. Since then, when i change my Wireless Zero Configuration properties to make the startup type 'Automatic' and apply it, it goes back to 'manual' every time i restart or reconnect my wireless adaptor. Can anyone suggest a way to make the 'Automatic' setting stick?

Thanks

wireless zero configuration

Sorry, i meant if i happen to take the wireless adapter out of its usb port. But the bigger problem is that every time i start my laptop i have to go to my control panel and start my wireless zero configuration whereas previously it used to do this automatically every time i booted up the machine.
Any tips you might have would be very much appreciated.
Thanks

Have you tried . . .

making sure the adapter is plugged in on boot up? That way it's discovered on boot up.

... but unfortuately it doesn't seem to make any difference. it seems to know its there, but just won't allow the connection because the Wireless Zero Configuration Service Status is always on 'stopped' on startup.
Thanks

not completely sure what this is, but i'm assuming it refers to a firewall. i'm running AVG internet security, do you think this might be causing the problem?

Not yet.

The reason I asked is that a long discussion not unlike this one ended when we found they had some wifi hotshield or such software installed.

I can offer that you don't need to head to services to start that service. Click Start, Run and this command.

net start wzswsc

(from http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms706593(VS.85).aspx )

"Make sure not other wireless software running"
and more at http://www.eggheadcafe.com/software/aspnet/31547829/wireless-zero-config-does.aspx

Sadly I can't see your machine so you have to tell more.
