Since your video has less pixels than your screen and more, there will always be some distortion.
Why not try both ways and pick the better result? ONLY YOU CAN DETERMINE THIS!

Hi, I am trying to figure something out here, that has several factors to it. First of all, for an example to use, let's say I rip a DVD that had a Widescreen display resolution of 16:9.
Now in my transcoder app, there is the cropping, storage and display settings. Under cropping, I usually let it "auto crop" for me. but there is also a loose crop setting. "Auto crop" takes what appears to be 56 pixels from the top and 60 from the bottom, leaving left and right at 0 each. It lists crop dimensions at 720x364. Under the storage options, there is width and height options prefilled with (720 x 364) "optimal for source checked". Under that is "Anamorphic" with options for Strict or Loose. If I ever choose loose, then those width and height option allow for editing. Finally, Display again has width and height prefilled (853 x 364) with "keep aspect" checked. 2.34:1.
Now, I want to play the video file on my laptop screen which has its display resolution of 1366x768, which equates to a "widescreen" display. So to play a widescreen movie on it, at a full screen value but with no distortions, how is the best way or with what of all these settings do I choose?
Do further complication matters, my video play also has its own "Aspect Ratio" and "Crop" settings I can choose from. So far, I cannot get the right settings between the two.
Am I doing all this right? I know if has to do with Anamorphic in the transcodiong process, but what in the media player needs to be set to achieve what I am trying?
