Question

Help with usb wifi adapter

Mar 18, 2017 6:34PM PDT

So I purchased a usb wifi adapter for my daughter's desktop computer as it cannot pick up wifi. Plugged in the wifi adapter via the usb, the message i receive is "No driver found", the computer recognizes my device as "802.11n WLAN NIC" of course it's generic/unbranded device. Windows couldnot find any updates for the device, anybody have any suggestions/fixes? Thanks

nothing

i downloaded the drivers ( i think) from the 2nd link^ but after it installed nothing popped up, it said after download completed a startup wizard would pop up and walk me thru the rest of the process but nothing happened, nor was a shortcut or anything created on my desktop.

802.11n WLAN NIC - is the device name under my device manager
PCI Simple Communications Controller- it he file listed right underneath it in the device manager

reset, a full reboot

Pull out the device, make sure it's removed in Device Manager, then hit the RESET button on your computer so it will dump the Fast Boot file and start a new one. After it reboots fully, then insert the USB device and see if the driver files will then be found.

Reveal the OS in use and give the link to what you bought.

I have a few older WiFi sticks that worked without me having to install drivers but that no longer works in Windows 10. Now I have to take care to find out if the OS is supported and where to get the drivers from.
