Help with upgrading/diagnosing

Nov 4, 2005 3:30AM PST

I am thinking about upgrading my video card to http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814150107#DetailSpecs but am not sure if it would work.

I got a Athlon 2000 processor which is clocked at 1.66 ghz, 1 GB of RAM and a 120 gb hard drive.

The second problem I'm having is I am debating on whether or not to upgrade my processor/ram but I need to know what the max my mobo can handle, what would be the name of a diagnostic program that could tell me the specs on my comp preferably freeware?

Thanks in advance!

go to : http://www.crucial.com/

and use there memory advisor tool tm

after you put in your system details
and get onto the page where it tells you
which ram would be best which one to buy etc
on the left hand side of the page it says system specs
there it will tell you how much ram your pc can handle
about cpu i dont know but will have a quick look about for ya dan
dont know much about video cards i would ask the manufacturers of the video card you want to upgrade to
for system compatibility

Toni H.'s website for programs that you can download that will identify your hardware, one such is Belarc. It will tell you what mobo that you have and then you go to the mobo mfrs website to find what CPU's it can take. Can also download the mobo manual from theuir site.

http://www.pcwarfare.com/hdd.tools.htm

There's also one named everett [do a google search] that is very good at telling you everything about your computer.
