Help with Samsung YP-Z5 please

Ahhh I see, thank you ever so much =) The 'unknown' problem was buggine me a little bit!!!

At the moment i am on my second Z5 - sent the first one back as it would not charge... hmmm it has been connected to the computer for 3 hours now and it is still ''charging'' apparently. I don't dare disconnect it and see how full the battery bar is!

Does it usually take this long to charge? Does it actually charge when the screen is 'off' not 'dimmed' as obviously, when the screen is off you can't see the charging icon. On the iPod you could visibly see the charging icon and on the Z5 you don't seen anything not even how much the battery is full. Hmm

yes it is charging when the diplay is off.
It takes 4-5 hrs to fully charge.
Do not charge it longer than 12 hrs.

I wonder what your personal opinion is when comparing the Samsung with the Zen and Sony MP3 players?

Can they all create libraries on the PC to be autosynced with the MP3 ? (I can't find whether the Zen can or can't ??)

Can they all do much the same types of saving and searching functions? If so, what sets one apart from the other?

Firstly, if you have a new problem, you really aught to start a new thread.
Secondly, what is the player doing exactly? When you connect it to usb does the lightning sign appear where the battery logo is? If not, then yes it is faulty. If the lightning is there, then perhaps you are not waiting long enough to expect a full charge- try leaving it for a good hour or so or until the lightning sign has changed to a green battery (fully charged). The longer battery life on this player also means you have to charge it for longer.

When i connect it to the USB the lightning sign does show up but it just does not charge. In fact the charge is going down. I plugged it into charge for 4 hours today and the battery has now gone down to red!!! It started off at 3/4 the very first time i used the device and would never fill up to full.

What do you suggest, is it possible I have got a 2nd faulty product, surely it is not my computer or anything my end?

I saw your latest and couldn't help comment, because your experience is similar to mine. I've posted in this forum before, but the story in a nutshell is that I also had 2 different Y5's and took them both back because of charging/battery issues. In my case, they appeared to be charging fully but I was only getting about a third of the promised battery life...and it seemed to be less every time. I tried different USB ports, different PCs, everything. And as you said, I too wondered if Samsung has got some bad batches out there. Maybe hurried it to market and included too many lemons. I got mine at Best Buy, and I think they were the first national retailer to offer the player.

I would definitely take a good look at your computer. Maybe you are not using high power usb ports, I think the usb ports directly on the motherboard are high powered ones. Also, you could try unplugging other USB devices while the player is charging. I'm not really sure, but if i was you, I would definitly be wondering if it was in fact the computer. Find someone with a newer computer and try charging it there.

I defintely think they should have made a wall charger to go with the thing.

As far as HGeez's commments on batt life, you're never going to get the same battery life as the manufacturer says in the spec. Those are under ideal conditions. Meaning, i would imagine, low volume, optimal temperature, continuous playback (no button pushes), and the diplay being OFF. I think the display takes the most power. so ya, if your pushing buttons nad playin with the player at all, your increasing the power consumption and lessoning the batt life.

All of nonofyobiz's comments have been addressed earlier, but I'll go through them again. My battery life problems occurred with TWO different players on TWO different computers (both fairly new ones) and many different USB ports on each, also with other USB peripherals unplugged. I tested the players with no display, low volume, no EQ, continuous playback...and still got only one-third of the advertised battery life. And finally, believe me, I KNOW that I won't get the advertised battery life, so don't state the obvious. As I've said before, I would have been happy with 20 to 25 hours.

Apparently, the player will turn off after so long connected via USB if WMP10 isn't running. There is a setting in the player for it. So if the player turns off, it won't charge.

I tried it on another computer (an older computer!!!) and it charged fine. Therefore, I asked a techno wizz and like said earlier in this discussion, the USB is underpowered and is not charging the player.

I have ordered a wall charger from a third party website and hope it will charge it. Other than that, i have tried removing all USB things when charging it. I have 8 USB ports in the back of my computer its unreal and I have tried all of them. I don't know how to boost power to the USB ports, apparently you cannot!! Help?

Some computers are woefully underpowered at the USB ports.
My last desktop (HP Pavilion) would not power my printer if my mouse and keyboard were plugged in.
My new one (DELL Dimension) does just fine.

ya my mom came home with a shuffle =S and i remember it said in the instructions to make sure you charge it in a high power USB port....i dunno. *?*

ok, sorry i just can't assume everyone on the internet is as intelligent as you. The first half of my post was for the originator, not you, i don't even remember reading about your battery problems. mmmkay?

About the batt life, I was just trying to shed some light on WHY, and again, i can't assume everyone on the net understands stuff like that, there are alot of ppl that take things very literally.
