Question

Help with Routers

So my mom has gotten to taking away the router when she leaves as she does not want me to browse the internet. However, i found this old router that i think i can use when she leaves. But when i plugged the old router in, a wifi network appeared on my computer that i know is from the old router, but is different from the ones shown by the new router (the router my mom took away). i tried connecting to the network with the correct password, However, it said connection error and wouldn't connect. ----------- More info: When we were using the old router, we used wifi from Time Warner Cable (now Spectrum). Then we switched to another internet service provider WOW! and they provided us with a new router. Does this router mismatch have to do with the fact that it is from 2 different wifi companies? Can i fix this? cuz i wanna use the internet with the old router when my mom takes the new router away. thx. If this was confusing tell me and i will try to re-explain

Answer
Here's the bigger problem

You said your mom takes the router away to keep you from getting on the internet. Your request is to find a way to circumvent your mother's desires. It would be inappropriate for anyone here to offer any help other than to set you on a path to better gain the trust of your mother. It's not allowed here to ask for or post hacks to get around software licensing here so why should it be permissible to find cheats for legitimate authority of any kind? Have a talk with your mother and work this out with her. You'll need to live with her decision. Sorry 'bout that.

True

What you said is absolutely true, however, I'm not asking for hacks. It's just an old router that should work but is not as a different wifi name appears. no hacks here even though i should gain my mom's trust again.

It's still a type of hack

as you appear to be trying to circumvent a policy decision made by higher authority. While the consequences could be more severe, this isn't unlike someone asking for help opening a parents gun safe. No one should do that. I'm not trying to be mean about this but, frankly, I'm surprised that this thread hasn't been locked. Work it out with your mom and prove you can be trusted. I could guess she's worried about where you might land as you cruise the net. She's wise to be careful because any such cruising can be traced back to her.

Answer
As you may know.

This forum policies forbid this. It's not your network so we can't help.
