Help with Outlook express

I have outlook express as my default mail system. I can't for the life of me fiqure out how to turn on the spell checker to check the spelling when I go to send. The spell check icon does not appear in the tool bar and it shows up as lite grey and nothing happens when I click on it when I look to manually check the spelling. What am I doing wrong? Please help guys n gals. Thanks in advance.

Not native to the app

In reply to: Help with Outlook express

Outlook Express does not have spell check of it's own. It uses the spell check from Microsoft Office apps or Microsoft Works (if it had Word with it).

Do you have either of these programs installed? If you do, then you may have a missing file Csapi3t1.dll you need to reinstall.

If you don't, there are some other spell check programs you can install that will work with Outlook Express.

Thanks

I don't have either of those programs installed on this PC but have the disc to install. That must be the problem. I'll check back with you when I install them. Thanks for the quick reply.

Given that

In reply to: Help with Outlook express

Given that Outlook Express has numerous serious security issues, and using it is like hanging up an "Open for Business" sign for spammers, you might want to consider something else.

Mozilla Thunderbird is nice. Much better security, better spam control, built-in spell checker, extensions to add new functionality... There's also a long standing Internet classic in Eudora. While not free, I've heard very few bad things about The Bat as well. There are literally hundreds of other options available as well, some free, some not, but almost all are bound to be safer to use than Outlook or Outlook Express.
