Help with old S3600 Samsung

by robles62 / March 16, 2004 4:40 PM PST

Can anyone steer me to information on this old portable? It was made by Samsung Electronics around 1989-1990 and the BIOS is Phoenix 80286 ROM BIOS Plus version 3.10 16J. A search using Samsung yielded no mention of portable computers ever being made by this company. Any help appreciated very much.

I can't help you at all with this question. But can you tell what exactly you want to know, and why?
What's the current OS (MS-DOS 4 or thereabout?).

About all that is doable with such an unit is DOS. There is NO way you can do Windows 3.11 and run today's software on this.

In fact, forget Windows, Linux, other GUI since that's not going to happen.

Upgrades? No. There are no such things.

----------------------------------------

What can you do with it?

DOS, OS/2 (if you can find it) and there is NO SUPPORT. Forget about it. You can get more support here than any store or Samsung.

Dos - Get a boot disk with most of Dos from http://www.bootdisk.com
Internet - YES, if you are not command line challanged, the DOS INTERNET tools are over at http://www.fdisk.com/doslynx/ and other places.

Is there a decal/sticker showing what model and s/n? Remove cover, maybe more info in there. Plain Samsung doesn't cut it. -----Willy

Here's a link for ya:

Now check the various links available. You could do yourself a favour if you had a picture to reference to and thus a link for helpful people to post ya. Just a suggestion if capable. -----Willy
