I have an HP work laptop running Windows 7. My home internet is via Xfinity/Comcast using the Gateway modem/router combo. Earlier this week, we had to unplug and relocate the Gateway within our house and since then, my laptop won't connect to the internet. It shows our home WiFi network and says it is "connected," but the WiFi icon has the dreaded yellow caution symbol and says "no internet access."
What is really strange is that:
- Every other device in our house (2 other computers, multiple mobile devices) connect to the home network just fine.
- Plugging the laptop directly into the router via ethernet cable does not help (shows wired connection but still no internet access).
- The laptop connects to other networks (e.g. public library) without a problem.
I tried calling Xfinity/Comcast and went through multiple Gateway restarts, firmware upgrade, etc but to no avail.
I tried calling my work IT department but they are not much help since they can't remote into the laptop without an internet connection and when the computer is physically located at their office it connects to the local WiFi just fine.
Needless to say, I have also tried multiple computer restarts, disconnecting/reconnecting the wireless access, removing my home network and setting up as a new network, cleared the internet cache, tried ipconfig release/renew, etc. I can't uninstall or update drivers as I don't have admin privileges on this work computer, and since it works everywhere else I'm less prone to believe this is the problem anyway.
If anyone has any tips for me I would GREATLY appreciate it! I have no idea what else to do!
