Help With Merge Fields in Documents

Oct 24, 2007 1:54AM PDT

Hi,

I'm having trouble with this and have no idea how to proceed. I have a word document that uses merge fields to insert information from an excel spreadsheet into the document, such as name, DOB, etc. I received the file from a colleague at work. Suddenly, when I open that file, the merge toolbar doesn't seem to "turn on," for lack of a better term. The number "0" appears, but the arrows to move through the different fields are greyed out, so I can't change the fields that the document accesses. Maybe a simpler way to say it is once I use the file to print out information for one person (say "John Smith") I am not able to change to the second person in the data source (say "Jane Wilson"). Can anyone help me figure this out?

Thanks,

Chris Buhl

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. No, none of the versions work correctly anymore.

Make a new and very simple form (comparable to the old one) and see if you can get that working. Vary with the source (other than Excel, or other options if those exist) and see if that matters.

Also try on another machine.

It might not directly solve your problem, but it might help to get it more clear.
