HeLp WiTh logitech mx518 AnD G5 NoT working HeLp

OK here is my problem:
i had a cheap optical mouse that started dying on me
(going everywhere clicking randomly),so i researched a bit and found the logitech mx518
for about 17.00. after a week it came but did not work, i think that
this was a hardware prob because if i got the wire in the right place it would
work for about 15 secs then the wire would move. also the light would only
come on for 0.000005 secs when i plugged it in.
(and yes the drivers were reinstalled 3 times ,and it is a plug and play mouse, anyway)
so i got a refund and found the logitech G5 for 21.00 (i am good at finding good deals on eBay)
so after another week i get it, yes of course it DOES NOT WORK! Now it has been around 3 weeks and I'm still stuck with that stupid
ball mouse... this time the light does not come on at all when i plug it in ,now........ i buy everything from eBay but never
had anything not work (DOA)
so is this a stroke of bad luck? or a real prob?

during not having a mouse i used a ball mouse plugged in to a ps2 port (the mx518 and the G5 are usb mice)

i tried a usb to ps2 adapter and nothing

this is my pc:

Manufacturer: Compaq

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3400+

Memory: 1 Gig

Keyboard: logitech media keyboard

Mouse: cheap ball mouse (for now)

Mouse Surface: a normal mouse pad

Operating System: Windows XP
