Help with http 404 and 403 errors and also can't download..

by mike62 / April 10, 2007 11:53 AM PDT

I have an HP Laptop running XP with SP2. I have always run IE and have version 7 currently I believe (with tabs). I may have multiple problems but here is what the problem is tonight.......

When trying to download (update) at the JAVA Sun site when I click on download it will say "checking system configuration" but never goes beyond that. I attempted on Sun site and 2 3rd party sites....

Then thought I would try Netscape for the download, same message as IE,

then I thought I would try Firefox by downloading it and when using Netscape it say "site blocked" and when using IE it gives me a http 404 and or 404 Forbidden IE error pages.

I am sorry if that is all to much but the main issue is I can't seem to access these sites for some reason or update JAVA.

Any suggestions?

If you already have Java installed and want to update use the Java applet in control panel.
Control Panel
Double click the Java icon
Click the update tab.
Click on check for update.

The current version is 1.6.0 (update 1)

You may have an earlier version which is ok.

Then I would say you don't have Java installed and you would need the complete install.

It was there not sure why it was not where you said but I was finally able to update. I had to go thru FileHippo. Cnet or direct link was not working for me.
