HELP with HP 648C printer!

I have a HP DeskJet 648C printer and an iMac computer (system 10.3.9). A week ago the printer wouldn't print - all jobs were stopped in the que - and someone suggested that I put in a new color cartridge. I did, and then the printer printed.

However, it will only print documents if I select the print icon in the menu bar. It won't print if I use the application menu bar, go to "FILE" and drag down to "PRINT." My whole application - Microsoft Word, Adobe, whatever - quits.
any suggestions?

I'd try a Mac forum.

Repeating the same question such as http://forums.cnet.com/5208-7590_102-0.html?forumID=67&threadID=242977&messageID=2459164 may not fetch a reply as you intended but does clutter the forum.

To get your post "to the top" just reply to your post and it moves to the top without cluttering the boards.
