help with home theater setup

Jan 24, 2005 3:49AM PST

I am about to buy a sony 46" HDTV (KP-46WT520) and I am planning on hooking up an X-box, Gamecube, PS2, DVD player, Sony home theater system (HT-DDW660), and cable box to it. Can anyone help with the best cables and configuration to get the best quality?

I would not use any type of game console with your HDTV. I've read that these consoles can burn-in on your display very quickly. Also consider at the very minimum component cables from the DVD to the HDTV, if your set top box supports some type of digital output, use a digital connection where possible. Your home threater system should have a digital connection for audio, use a digital coax or fiber optic cable from the DVD to the receiver.

my Onkyo receiver has 3 audio/video inputs where I dont have to plug anything but component audio and s-video cables to HDTV. I connect x-box to video3 which all three inputs have space for vid and audio so game box isn't going straight to tv. The receiver sends the signal. DVD player goes to audio1 with component and like the other reader says if your Sony has optical input, use that. Also, don't skimp on speaker wire. Don't use what comes with system Go buy thicker gauge wire. 14 gauge, I think. It's worth it. mail me at mtbarbee@hotmail.com if I can answer anything else for you. You'll love surround. I cant watch tv without it now.
