I've just built a PC for my girlfriend's brother (get into the good books and all that!) but I have encountered a problem with the graphics or memory - not quite sure.
I finished building the system and I thought that it was working fine, WinXP installed no prob, and after a while I realised that something wasn't quite right. Sometimes the graphics would play up / not refresh. For example - open a menu over the task bar, close menu but parts of the menu are still visible on the task bar. Sometimes when opening windows, horizontal lines appear on the desktop to the side of the window. When Windows' 3D pipes screensaver runs - oh my god! it has trouble rendering the pipes, and gaps appear in the pipes, and bits of pipe appear in other areas of the screen, as well as flickering horizontal lines on the screen.
The motherboard used was an ABit NF7-M with onboard graphics (GeForce4 MX). The system has two 512 ram sticks (crucial memory), so it should be enough memory, AMD Athlon XP 2600+.
I have changed Windows display properties - changed the res from 800x600 -> 1280x1024, but no change, changed to 16bit colour, and no change.
The drivers for the motherboard were installed properly and the display driver for the GeForce4 MX is version 4.4.0.3 - can't find anything about it on the web.
Does anyone please have any suggestions/advice? I am tearing my hair out!
