Help with Google search directs please.

HI, in the last day and a half I have been having trouble with Google searches being redirected to sponsored sites or other things. I can look up, for instance, Target, and the page will show the official site, etc. When I click a link I am redirected to a sponsored site or something called Nixxie..
I was on the phone with Norton, and they found nothing wrong. It is not just Target, and it is not consistent, other than it is always Google.
I went on Google and I guess this has been around for a while; but I do not wish to download anything that I may not need or might make it worse.
I have Windows Vista on my laptop. Any help is greatly appreciated.
